I used to think that iPads and iPhones were rich peoples toys - a bit of a wank-fest. Now I know that they are both tools that are invaluable to those of us trying to juggle a 2e child. Especially so if you yourself have a disability or illness (as I do). My husband is a computer programmer, however as he refuses to deal with anything "Apple", I can assure you that we are not in any way associated with any of these applications (and should we be in the future, I will say so). We have simply used them, and like them.
FirstThen, by Good Karma Applications, Inc - Sets up routines for children who have trouble with "getting going". You can set up your routines, insert your own pictures (or use those provided), and then tick off each thing as it's done. The only application out there like it that I've found, though be warned - it is not the flashest, nor does it reset itself (meaning that you have to manually untick things in order to retick them the next day), and as apps go, it is expensive, however we have nonetheless, found it very useful. It will work on the iPad, however was made for the iPhone, so the graphics go smudgy if enlarged.
Talking Tom 2, by Outfit7 - A great app for teaching children how to be gentle with their iPad/iPhone. He purrs when stroked and gets rather cranky or passes out when abused. (lite version available).
AutismXpress, by StudioEmotion Pty Ltd, Inc - This app gives you a screen with many faces on it - each one showing a different emotion. Pick a face and it will come up in full, along with the appropriate laughter/tears/etc. Highly recommended for children who have trouble verbalising their emotions. (lite version available).
Chore Pad HD, by Nannek - A great reward system that allows total control. (lite version available).
iPlanLessons, by iHomeEducator - An app for planning lessons at home. We have only just started using this and so far it looks great, but will come back for a more thorough review once we've used it more.
Evernote Peek, by Evernote - An app that needs the iPad 2 Smartcover to work. Lift up part of the cover for the question, then lift the rest of the cover for the answer. Great for testing and reviewing.
Variety of Social Videos, by the Conover Company - These videos (there are five in all) show social situations and how best to deal with them. I will come back and list what is included in each (when I'm not stuck on the lounge lol). These are tailored more to adults than children, though children may also find them useful. Responding Social Skills, Everyday Social Skills, Communication Skills, Personal Social Skills, and Manners.
Visual Cue, by Sanghoon Lee - An application for visualising routines. I haven't used this one yet.
Now What, by Richard Humphrey - Another app for visualising routines. I haven't used this one yet.
